During the American Civil War, a game of straight was introduced, and later, a game of lowball and split-pot poker was introduced.

Another type of poker is the badugi variant, which is similar to the draw version. The draw game is played with the same ranking structure, but the dealer draws up to four cards at once. Once the draw is completed, the badugi dealer starts the betting round.

Finally, the showdown occurs. At the showdown, the highest-ranking poker hand wins the pot. This is done by breaking ties among identical hands. Depending on the particular poker variation, a tie can be broken by the highest card in the hand, or by a secondary pair. Occasionally, a straight hand of five cards is used as the showdown.
